Over 40,000 Tonnes Of Hazardous Contaminated Soils Removed From Site Over A 4-Month Period
Project Description
Between July and to end of October 2023, Augean arranged the storage, treatment, recovery and disposal of around 40,000 tonnes of hazardous contaminated soils from a site in Scotland. Over a four-month period, the material was transported by our client with Augean assisting with coordinating transport movements to our Port Clarence Treatment Facility. The hazardous soils were contaminated with hydrocarbons and high pH. Augean’s treatment team presented the best segregation of contaminants to reduce overall treatment costs and were able to provide treatment options for all levels of contamination at the same facility. Once treated, the material was recovered or disposed at our Port Clarence site, providing a cradle-to-grave solution.
Both volume and contamination of material meant strict deadlines were required by the client to remove and treat large volumes daily.
Our client’s and Augean’s teams coordinated the transportation of up to 1,000 tonnes daily to cover the high volume of hazardous contaminated soils movements required by our client. This allowed our Port Clarence operations team to respond to the challenge by actioning additional requirements for volume acceptance on site
for treatment.
Augean provided the client with all the relevant compliance documentation giving a daily tonnage report to ensure they were able to track the project’s progress closely. All of the material was treated and diverted from direct landfill disposal, achieving significant cost savings and following the waste hierarchy.
This scheme was a key example of Augean’s high level
of customer service and ability to transport, treat, recover and dispose of the UK’s hard to handle wastes.
Augean worked closely with the client to ensure we could successfully accept a large number of deliveries over four months of over 40,000 tonnes of hazardous contaminated soils.
