Setting up a new EFW site and transport for residue waste (APCr) in Scotland

Project Overview

In October 2024, Augean secured a contract to be the Air Pollution Control Residue (APCr) off-taker for a brand-new site at Westfield Energy Recovery Fife. This resulted in Augean collecting, transporting, and treating around 6,500 tonnes of APCr per year for recovery.

The solution

Conducting site visits and ‘dry-runs’ with the tankers helps prepare for a smooth service once the plant becomes operational. These visits provide an opportunity for us to gather all the relevant information about the location, including site rules, layout, photographs, induction process, and allow for the completion of necessary Risk Assessments and Safe Working Procedures.

The key part of organising the transport logistics was considering the available haulage in the area and potential back-loading opportunities. Our goal was to utilise as many vehicles as possible to deliver to other nearby sites, thereby minimising “empty” running miles.

Going above and beyond

By placing utmost importance on a smooth onboarding process from day one, our team ensures exceptional customer experience through clear, consistent communication. We take time to thoroughly understand unique needs, pain points, and goals, tailoring our approach accordingly while being highly responsive. Our whole team goes above and beyond to ensure customers feel supported, valued, and set up for long-term success, laying the groundwork for productive, mutually beneficial partnerships.

A lot of time and effort goes into preparation and setting up of a new site, before the waste is even produced and received by Augean. From finance requirements to Consignment/SEPA notes. By getting the hauliers involved from the beginning, it helps to create a strong working relationship, encourages conversations, new ideas and improvements. It highlights the importance of working together and having a safe environment for all.
