Project Overview
Augean was engaged by our client after initial testing revealed elevated levels of PAHs in the silt adjacent to their dock.
Our technical team reviewed these results, which were deemed insufficient for land disposal, prompting further sampling and testing at our UKAS-accredited laboratory in Peterborough. The additional data enabled proper classification of the silt in accordance with WM3 guidance, ensuring regulatory compliance.
Due to the contamination levels and the proximity to the dock, a crane was required to safely dredge the material from depth. Augean mobilised this equipment within two weeks, utilising our extensive supply chain to meet the client’s deadlines.
A temporary bund was constructed using imported material to contain the dredged silt prior to loading onto sealed 8-wheel tippers. The excavated material was transported to our Port Clarence facility, where it was deposited into a purpose-built dredgings lagoon for treatment alongside other waste.
The treated material was then reused in our on-site engineering works. Upon project completion, the client received a compliance pack containing weekly tonnage reports, documentation, and weighbridge tickets, ensuring all regulatory and environmental requirements were satisfied.
