Augean North Sea Services (ANSS), working as lead contractor on behalf of the Forth & Tay Decommissioning Alliance, have completed the onshore Subsea Waste Management and Manifold Recycling scope for the Juliet/Minke fields on behalf of Neptune Energy, achieving a recycling rate of c.99%.

Over 500 tonnes of waste was received from the construction vessel, consisting primarily of the following:

• Juliet Subsea Manifold
• Numerous Concrete Mattresses
• Grout Bags
• Spool sections

The project was received into the Port of Dundee at very short notice due to a lack of available suitable locations nearer to the field, with all arrangements being put in place for receipt in the early hours of Saturday morning, with the original request coming earlier in the same week.

The concrete mattresses were cleaned by High Pressure Water Jetting to remove silt and marine growth prior to being shipped for crushing and recycling with the grout bags as aggregate.

The spool sections were cleaned inside and out with High Pressure Water prior to the short transfer to Robertson’s Metals Recycling.

ANSS were supported in the delivery of this project by the following members of the Forth &Tay Alliance;

• Robertson’s Metals Recycling
  (Metal Dismantling, Recycling)

The most challenging aspect of the project was the subsea manifold. This was a lift of >150te due to rock dumping materials on the manifold base. The lift from the vessel was completed onto stands, before over 30 tonnes of rock was removed to allow for safe movement by SPMT.

The manifold was cleared of silt and broken down for recycling, with care taken to remove valuable valves and the control panel for potential reuse.
