Port Clarence Team volunteers

Groundwork NE & Cumbria, an environmental charity. dedicated to improving the lives of people across the North East of England and Cumbria are working together with members of Augean to improve a community allotment in Stockton.

10 employees from our Port Clarence site swapped operating mobile plant for spades and wheelbarrows yesterday as part of a company volunteering day. Our volunteers spent the day at Port Clarence Allotments in Stockton on Tees, taking part in various site maintenance tasks including barrowing soil and rocks to construct two ponds and a rockery.

We were keen to partner with Groundwork NE & Cumbria as we are committed to   improving the environment within the communities local to our operating sites. The Allotment project is very   close to our site at Port Clarence so we were more than happy to support it. We hope the work completed will   help the “allotmenteers” to be able to spend more time growing their own fruit and vegetables as well as sharing   tips and excess produce with others.

Groundwork NE & Cumbria is dedicated to improving the lives of people through environmental improvement   programmes, training and work placement schemes, and practical initiatives to tackle climate change and help   businesses improve their green credentials.

Their Gateshead Nursery provides horticultural training for local people, offers courses and activities in   health and wellbeing and specialises in growing trees using locally collected seed, which are then sold across   the UK for use in woodland schemes, hedging, landscaping, schools, plantations, highways and many other   projects.

We offer a range of partnership opportunities including practical employee engagement activities and bespoke skills-based volunteering programmes that can enhance companies’ staff personal development strategies. We are delighted to be working with Augean to provide them with the opportunity to enhance their commitment to their corporate social responsibility policy and to make a difference within their local community.
