Future of ENRMF (Kings Cliffe)

The Parliamentary-Under Secretary of State for Local Government and Building Safety, Lee Rowley MP, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, The Right Honourable Michael Gove MP, has granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) to Augean South Limited for the construction of  new hazardous landfill void space to the west of the current site and continuation of site operations until 2046, at the company’s East Northants Resource Management Facility (ENRMF).

Augean’s application for the DCO was brought forward as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP).  The NSIP process provides an efficient system to consider infrastructure applications, while ensuring that communities and other key consultees have an opportunity to comment and engage in the decision making process. A report and recommendation to the Secretary of State was made by the Planning Inspectorate after a six month examination period which allowed detailed scrutiny of each aspect of the scheme and took account of all matters that were raised during the consultation stages of the application.

We are very pleased that the application has been granted consent, and has determined that the company’s proposal has been based on sound scientific, technical, environmental and policy grounds. The DCO will enable Augean to play its part in economic growth and regeneration by the continued operation of an important part of the country’s waste infrastructure by providing a nationally important facility for the safe, secure and well-regulated treatment and disposal of wastes which is available to key business sectors like the construction and demolition industry and decommissioning markets. The company is committed to contributing positively to the local area and strives to be a good neighbour, whether that is participating in local community liaison groups, opening the site to visitors or funding community projects through our various Community Funds and will continue these initiatives throughout the lifetime of the site.
